English Summary
The Translation When Martin Luther returned from the Diet of Worms, he could no longer be sure of his life. For his protection, the Elector therefore had him ‚kidnapped‘ on May 4, 1521 and taken to Wartburg Castle near Eisenach. There he lived until March 1522 under the name Junker Jörg. During this time he wrote a lot and translated the New Testament into German – without dictionary and Bible commentaries. After his ‘kidnapping’ he returned to Wittenberg and continued the reformation process, as well as the translation of the Bible. The New Testament was already published in German in September 1522, and the translation of the entire Bible into German was finished in 1534.
