Wann hast Du beschlossen, Spectacular in a Losing Effort zu schreiben?

English Summary
Spectacular in a Losing Effort – Interview Part 3
Jerry, we’ve already learned a bit about the content of your book in the first two parts of our conversation. When did you decide to write Spectacular in a Losing Effort?
I always believed I had a good story but I was thinking it would be something I would do in the future, after my RV life was over. When COVID happened in 2020, I was grounded in Tucson. With nothing to do and nowhere to go, I started started writing and wrote about 90% of the book before I went back out on the road in 2021.
I was again grounded in 2023, finished the book, and started the process of getting the manuscript edited and published. All-in-all, the book took about a year to write and another eight months to get it published.
Can we look forward to another autobiographical book?
As you know Sabine, interesting and weird things happen when you are on the road, so I won’t rule it out. Writing a book is an interesting process, but it is also a very time-consuming process, so as long as I’m still on the road another book would have to wait until I settle down. Maybe in the future, we’ll see.
Do you have any other projects in the works?
As a photographer there are several projects I would like to work on; I have an idea to create a photo book dedicated to my sports photography, as well as photo books devoted to the national parks and possibly my travels in general. These are all in the early ‘idea’ stage, basically just concepts waiting to be worked on when I have the time. More than likely, you can look for those five years or so down the line.
I’ll come back to the first part of our conversation. You have visited all the national parks in the USA. What have been your favorite parks to visit and why?
This is a question I get all the time, and it is very hard to answer. As you noted I have been to all 63 national parks, over 100 national monuments and numerous national seashores, lakeshores, historical sites, and battlefields. All are interesting in their own way. In the lower 48 states I think the ‘must see’ national parks are Yellowstone, Yosemite and the Grand Canyon. But one of my favorites is Arches National Park in eastern Utah. It is an incredible collection of natural arches and interesting rock formations that I think everyone would enjoy. And just thirty miles away is the underappreciate Canyonlands National Park, so you get a two-for-one experience. Even beyond those, I would encourage people to also check out national monuments, they are usually less crowded but no less beautiful and just as interesting as the bigger more well-known national parks.
Finally, can you tell our followers where Spectacular in a Losing Effort can be purchased?
