ist ganz harmlos und nicht im Wasser zu finden. Es steht zwischen der Lava, die sich hier in Oregon vor ca. 7.000 Jahren aus dem nördlichen Teil des Newberry Volcano ergoss. Dieser Schildvulkan ist mit einer Fläche von 3.100 km² der größte in der Cascades Gebirgskette. Vom Lava Butte, einem Schlackenkegel direkt neben der US 97 südlich von Bend aus kann ich das große Lavafeld sehen, durch das der Trail of Molden Land führt. Und dort bin ich dann auch Lava Ness begegnet.

The Lava Ness Monsteris quite harmless and not found in the water. It stands among the lava that poured out of the northern part of Newberry Volcano about 7,000 years ago. This shield volcano is the largest in the Cascades mountain range, covering 1,200 square miles. From Lava Butte, a cinder cone just off US 97 south of Bend, OR, I can see the large lava flow through which the Trail of Molden Land passes. And that’s where I encountered Lava Ness.

Nein, es ist kein Wasserfall, sondern eine Erdspalte, genauer gesagt eine Spalte in einem ca. 7.000 Jahre alten Lavastrom. Der 346 km lange Rogue River in Oregon fließt bei Union Creek durch den Rogue Gorge, der an der engsten Stelle nur 7,60 m breit ist. Die Felswände ragen bis zu 13,70 m über dem tosenden Wasser auf.

No, it’s not a waterfall, but a fissure in the earth, or more precisely, a fissure in a lava flow that is about 7,000 years old.
